The Old Clock Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DEFFCC GHIICC

All day low clouds and slanting rainA
Have swept the woods and dimmed the plainA
Wet winds have swayed the birch and oakB
And caught and swirled away the smokeB
But all day long the wooden clockC
Went on Nic noc nic nocC
-
When deep at night I wake with fearD
And shudder in the dark to hearE
The roaring storm's unguided strengthF
Peace steals into my heart at lengthF
When calm amid the shout and shockC
I hear Nic noc nic nocC
-
And all the winter long 't is IG
Who bless its sheer monotonyH
Its scorn of days which cares no whitI
For time except to measure itI
The prosy dozy cosy clockC
Nic noc nic noc nic nocC
