Sunburnt Boys Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBCDED FGHGIDJD BIKILDMD INONKDID

Down on the Lumbee riverA
Where the eddies ripple coolB
Your boat I know glides stealthilyB
About some shady poolB
The summer's heats have lulled asleepC
The fish hawk's chattering noiseD
And all the swamp lies hushed aboutE
You sunburnt boysD
-
You see the minnow's waves that rockF
The cradled lily leavesG
From a far field some farmer's songH
Singing among his sheavesG
Comes mellow to you where you sitI
Each man with boatman's poiseD
There in the shimmering water lightsJ
You sunburnt boysD
-
I know your haunts each gnarly boleB
That guards the watersideI
Each tuft of flags and rushes whereK
The river reptiles hideI
Each dimpling nook wherein the bassL
His eager life employsD
Until he dies the captive ofM
You sunburnt boysD
-
You will not will you soon forgetI
When I was one of youN
Nor love me less that time has borneO
My craft to currents newN
Nor shall I ever cease to shareK
Your hardships and your joysD
Robust rough spoken gentle heartedI
Sunburnt boysD
