Barefooted Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDEFFGGHH IFJFKLKLMMNOON| The girls all like to see the bluets in the lane | A |
| And the saucy johnny jump ups in the meadow | B |
| But we boys we want to see the dogwood blooms again | C |
| Throwin' a sort of summer lookin' shadow | B |
| For the very first mild mornin' when the woods are white | D |
| And we needn't even ask a soul about it | E |
| We leave our shoes right where we pulled them off at night | D |
| And barefooted once again we run and shout it | E |
| You may take the country over | F |
| When the bluebird turns a rover | F |
| And the wind is soft and hazy | G |
| And you feel a little lazy | G |
| And the hunters quit the possums | H |
| It's the time for dogwood blossoms | H |
| - | |
| We feel so light we wish there were more fences here | I |
| We'd like to jump and jump them all together | F |
| No sleds for us no guns nor even 'simmon beer | J |
| No nothin' but the blossoms and fair weather | F |
| The meadow is a little sticky right at first | K |
| But a few short days 'll wipe away that trouble | L |
| To feel so good and gay I wouldn't mind the worst | K |
| That could be done by any field o' stubble | L |
| O all the trees are seemin' sappy | M |
| O all the folks are smilin' happy | M |
| And there's joy in every little bit of room | N |
| But the happiest of them all | O |
| At the Shanghai rooster's call | O |
| Are we barefoots when the dogwoods burst abloom | N |
