Verses On An Autumnal Leaf. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGF HIHI JKBK

Think not thou pride of Summer's softest strainA
Sweet dress of Nature in her virgin bloomB
That thou hast flutter'd to the breeze in vainA
Or unlamented found thy native tombB
-
The Muse who sought thee in the whisp'ring shadeC
When scarce one roving breeze was on the wingD
With tones of genuine grief beholds thee fadeC
And asks thy quick return in earliest SpringD
-
I mark'd the victim of the wintry hourE
I heard the winds breathe sad a fun'ral sighF
When the lone warbler from his fav'rite bow'rG
Pour'd forth his pensive song to see thee dieF
-
When in his little temple colder grownH
He saw its sides of green to yellow growI
And mourn'd his little roof around him blownH
Or toss'd in beauteous ruin on the snowI
-
And vow'd throughout the dreary day to comeJ
More sad by far than summer's gloomiest nightK
That not one note should charm the leafless gloomB
But silent Sorrow should attend thy flightK
