Valentine Verses, Sent To My Young Friend, Miss Emma Trevelyan, Of Wallington-house, Northumberland. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DEFF AACC GGHH EDCC

Emma 'tis early time for theeA
To hear the sounds of minstrelsyB
That breathe around the rosy shrineC
Of honest old Saint ValentineC
-
Too young art thou for strains of loveD
'Tis not thy passion I would moveE
Instead of lover's strains I sendF
The cordial wishes of a friendF
-
Nobly has Nature done her dutyA
To give thee of thy mother's beautyA
So large a share oh then be thineC
The mental charms that in her shineC
-
And may thy father's taste refin'dG
Still add new graces to thy mindG
And may'st thou to each charm impartH
The gen'rous frankness of his heartH
-
Then my sweet Emma thou shall moveE
In many a heart more genuine loveD
Than ever warm'd poetic lineC
Or sigh'd in any ValentineC
