Lines Written At Kilkenny, On The Theatricals Of That City. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDF GHIJ KLKL EMEM NONO PBPB QRQR S

Amid the ruins of monastic gloomA
Where Nore's meand'ring waters wind alongB
Genius and Wealth have rais'd the tasteful domeC
Yet not alone for Fashion's brilliant throngB
-
In Virtue's cause they take a noble aimD
'Tis theirs in sweetest harmony to blendE
Wit with Compassion Sympathy with FameD
Pleasure the means Beneficence the end AF
-
There if on Beauty's cheek the tear appearsG
Form'd by the mournful Muse's mimic sighH
Fast as it falls a kindred drop it bearsI
More sadly shed from genuine MiseryJ
-
Nor if the laughter loving Nymph delightK
Does the reviving transport perish thereL
Still still with Pity's radiance doubly brightK
Its smiles shed sunshine on the cheek of CareL
-
So if Pomona's golden fruit descendE
Shook by some breeze into the lake belowM
Quick will the dimple which it forms extendE
Till all around the joyous circles flowM
-
Bless'd be the liberal mind th' undaunted zealN
That bade loud Folly from the Stage retireO
That teach us how to think and how to feelN
And once again our godlike Bard admireO
-
Thus aided see his rescued genius springP
Again he pours the phrenzy of his songB
With EV'RY FEATHER B in his eagle wingP
Once more in majesty he soars alongB
-
Oft deck'd with smiles his spirit shall exploreQ
Erin thy beauteous vales and classic groundR
And ev'ry ripple of thy winding NoreQ
To him shall sweetly as his Avon's soundR
-
