The distant sail is faintly seen to glide | D |

Yes 'tis Reflection's chosen hour for then | E |
With pensive pleasure mingling o'er the scene | F |
Th' erratic mind treads over life again | E |
And gazes on the past with eye serene | F |

Those stormy passions which bedimm'd the soul | G |
That oft have bid the joys it treasur'd fly | H |
Now like th' unruffled waves of Ocean roll | G |
With gentle lapse their only sound a sigh | H |

The galling wrong no longer knits the brow | I |
Ambition feels the folly of her aim | J |
And Pity from the heart expanding now | I |
Pants to extend relief to ev'ry claim | J |

Thus as I sit beside the murm'ring sea | K |

I feel O Nature that serenity | K |
Which vainly poetry like mine can speak | L |

O'er the drear tract of Time Remembrance views | M |
Some dear some long departed pleasure gleam | N |
So o'er the dark expanse the eye pursues | M |
Upon the wat'ry edge a transient beam | N |

The spot fraternal love has sacred made | O |
Solemn yet sweet like groves in twilight gloom | P |
Mem'ry revisits and beneath its shade | O |
Faintly it sees each faded joy re bloom | P |

By Fancy led from Death's cold bed of stone | Q |
Lovely tho' wan what cherish'd form appears | R |
Oh gentle Anna A at thy name alone | Q |
Genius and Grace and Virtue smile in tears | S |
