Upon Her Appearing At A Ball In An Elegant Plaid DressA

And Having Repeatedly Before Expressed Her Preference Of The Scotish NationB

Is it that plaided thus you wish to proveC
How northern is the region of your loveD
Ah Mary tho' within that far fam'd climeE
Deeds have been done that mock the wreck of TimeE
Tho' there the brave have bled or o'er the waveF
On distant shores have found a glorious graveF
Tho' there the mountain nymph of song has pour'dG
Her loftiest strain to bless the hero's swordG
Still lovely wand'rer with a jealous eyeH
O'er Scotia's hills we see thy fancy flyH
For here the warrior oft has rais'd his swordG
The patriot too his noble blood has pour'dG
Here too the sweet Recorder of the braveF
Has sat and sung upon her hero's graveF
Then cease romantic maid ah cease to roveI
The very wood dove loves its native groveI
Oh then let Nature bid thy guileless heartJ
Here shed its love and all its warmth impartJ
And on the land that gave thee birth bestowK
The fondness which it claims and treasures tooL
