The Irish Emigrant. 1883. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PQRQ STRT

They sow in tears who reap in joyA
Was truly said of oldB
We wandered far but round us stillC
Stretched God Almighty's foldB
-
'Twas He who led us forth our griefD
Discerned His chastening handE
And saw not though before our eyesF
Shone bright His promised landE
-
O bless Him for the love that madeG
The parting greeting soreH
But for the bold heart that He gaveI
We bless our God yet moreH
-
He gave us hope He gave us strengthJ
For us His prairies smileK
The new world's untouched soils for usL
Spread boundless mile on mileK
-
The richest heritage on earthM
For us His mercy savedN
For ages Nature's harvests hereO
Unknown ungathered wavedN
-
Ours now the grain which decks the plainsP
Ours all their wondrous yieldQ
Our children and our kin possessR
Their own in house and fieldQ
-
What wonder then if many laughS
And wonder joy was dumbT
To friends in older lands with lessR
Our happy hearts say ComeT
