Dunolly's Daughter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJI KLML NOJO PQRQ STUT VWXW

Oh dear to old Dunolly's heartA
His darling daughter seemedB
Yet when she fled how pitilessC
His bitter curse was deemedB
-
To death he doomed her lover trueD
And swore his lowly bloodE
Should stain the land whose soil would blushF
At wanton womanhoodG
-
But leaves were thick and woods were greenH
Where summer saw their loveI
And none could tell Dunolly whereJ
Was nesting his wild doveI
-
Two years had sped and all unchangedK
Dunolly's mood remainedL
When tired with hunting late at eveM
A forest hut he gainedL
-
A cheerful scene for hung on treesN
On either side the doorO
A stag and roe and salmon thereJ
Lay strewn the hut beforeO
-
There pausing silently he heardP
Light laughter O well knownQ
And looking through the wattled wallR
Stood motionless as stoneQ
-
He saw a happy woman lieS
Her true man's form besideT
And laugh as on the bed they tossedU
A smiling child in prideT
-
No word Dunolly spoke but wentV
An altered man and saidW
Go bring them home for rich are theyX
Love shows them nobly wedW
