I awaken and open my eyes
I see you as you are dying
My eyes are wet and I grab
the remains of a raspberry doughnut
i am compelled to eat before it is lost to staleness
the sugar cannot stem my tears
everything comes back to me, the room in the hospice with a cold glare of light
I smelled vinegar as you pulled away from me
You concentrated on something in the distance
as though it were something you could see
when you were finally gone i wasn't even sure
they had to tell me
Our wedding picture is in front of the bed
the light bounces off your tuxedo
the light that will follow you to your end
