The Convict Of Clonmala Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHBJBABB GBKEFE LBFBFEBE

How hard is my fortuneA
And vain my repiningB
The strong rope of fateC
For this young neck is twiningB
My strength is departedD
My cheek sunk and sallowE
While I languish in chainsF
In the gaol of ClonmalaE
-
No boy in the villageG
Was ever yet milderH
I'd play with a childI
And my sport would be wilderH
I'd dance without tiringB
From morning till evenJ
And the goal ball I'd strikeB
To the lightning of heavenA
At my bed foot decayingB
My hurl ball is lyingB
-
Through the boys of the villageG
My goal ball is flyingB
My horse 'mong the neighborsK
Neglected may fallowE
While I pine in my chainsF
In the gaol of ClonmalaE
-
Next Sunday the patternL
At home will be keepingB
And the young active hurlersF
The field will be sweepingB
With the dance of fair maidensF
The evening they'll hallowE
While this heart once so gayB
Shall be cold in ClonmalaE
