To bear to nurse to rearA
To watch and then to loseB
To see my bright ones disappearA
Drawn up like morning dewsB
To bear to nurse to rearA
To watch and then to loseB
This have I done when God drew nearA
Among his own to chooseB
-
To hear to heed to wedC
And with thy lord departD
In tears that he as soon as shedC
Will let no longer smartD
To hear to heed to wedC
This while thou didst I smiledE
For now it was not God who saidC
Mother give ME thy childE
-
O fond O fool and blindF
To God I gave with tearsG
But when a man like grace would findF
My soul put by her fearsH
O fond O fool and blindF
God guards in happier spheresH
That man will guard where he did bindF
Is hope for unknown yearsH
-
To hear to heed to wedC
Fair lot that maidens chooseB
Thy mother's tenderest words are saidC
Thy face no more she viewsB
Thy mother's lot my dearA
She doth in nought accuseB
Her lot to bear to nurse to rearA
To love and then to loseB
