Regret Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEDF GHIJKLMLA NOPQRSTUV WXWXAA YZYZAA

O that word REGRETA
There have been nights and morns when we have sighedB
Let us alone Regret We are contentC
To throw thee all our past so thou wilt sleepD
For aye But it is patient and it wakesE
It hath not learned to cry itself to sleepD
But plaineth on the bed that it is hardF
-
We did amiss when we did wish it goneG
And over sorrows humanize our raceH
Tears are the showers that fertilize this worldI
And memory of things precious keepeth warmJ
The heart that once did hold themK
They are poorL
That have lost nothing they are poorer farM
Who losing have forgotten they most poorL
Of all who lose and wish they MIGHT forgetA
-
For life is one and in its warp and woofN
There runs a thread of gold that glitters fairO
And sometimes in the pattern shows most sweetP
Where there are sombre colors It is trueQ
That we have wept But O this thread of goldR
We would not have it tarnish let us turnS
Oft and look back upon the wondrous webT
And when it shineth sometimes we shall knowU
That memory is possessionV
-
I-
-
When I remember something which I hadW
But which is gone and I must do withoutX
I sometimes wonder how I can be gladW
Even in cowslip time when hedges sproutX
It makes me sigh to think on it but yetA
My days will not be better days should I forgetA
-
II-
-
When I remember something promised meY
But which I never had nor can have nowZ
Because the promiser we no more seeY
In countries that accord with mortal vowZ
When I remember this I mourn but yetA
My happier days are not the days when I forgetA
