Let us now go even unto Bethlehem	A

O Night of nights O night	B
Desired of man so long	C
The ancient heavens fled forth in light	B
To sing thee thy new song	C
And shooting down the steep	D
To shepherd folk of old	E
An angel while they watch'd their sheep	D
Set foot beside the fold	E
	-
Lo while as like to die	F
Of that keen light he shed	G
They look'd on his pure majesty	H
Amazed and sore bestead	H
Lo while with words of cheer	I
He bade their trembling cease	J
The flocks of God swept sweetly near	I
And sang to them of peace	J

All on the hillside grass	K
That fulgent radiance fell	L
So close those innocents did pass	K
Their words were heard right well	L
Among the sheep their wings	M
Some folding walk'd the sod	H
An order'd throng of shining things	M
White with the smile of God	H

The waits of heaven to hear	N
Oh what it must have been	O
Think Christian people think and fear	I
For cold hearts for unclean	P
Think how the times go by	F
How love and longing fail	Q
Think how we live and how we die	F
As this were but a tale	Q

O tender tale of old	H
Live in thy dear renown	R
God's smile was in the dark behold	H
That way His hosts came down	R
Light up great God Thy Word	H
Make the blest meaning strong	C
As if our ears indeed had heard	H
The glory of their song	C

It was so far away	S
But Thou could'st make it near	I
And all its living might display	S
And cry to it Be here	N
Here in th' unresting town	R
As once remote to them	A
Who heard it when the heavens came down	R
On pastoral Bethlehem	A

It was so long ago	T
But God can make it now	U
And as with that sweet overflow	T
Our empty hearts endow	U
Take Lord those words outworn	U
O make them new for aye	F
Speak Unto you a child is born	U
To day to day to day	S
