Up to far Osteroe and SuderoeA
The deep sea floor lies strewn with Spanish wrecksB
O'er minted gold the fair haired fishers goC
O'er sunken bravery of high carv d decksB

In earlier days great Carthage suffered baleD
All her waste works choke under sandy shoalsE
And reckless hands tore down the temple veilD
And Omar burned the Alexandrian rollsE
The Old World arts men suffered not to lastF
Flung down they trampled lie and sunk from viewG
He lets wild forest for these ages pastF
Grow over the lost cities of the NewG

O for a life that shall not be refusedH
To see the lost things found and waste things usedH
