Rhyme Scheme: A BCDDEEFFFFGGHIIIIIJG I KK

A
-
The pleasures of a poultry yardB
Were by a swan and gosling sharedC
The swan was kept there for his looksD
The thrifty gosling for the cooksD
The first the garden's pride the latterE
A greater favourite on the platterE
They swam the ditches side by sideF
And oft in sports aquatic viedF
Plunging splashing far and wideF
With rivalry ne'er satisfiedF
One day the cook named Thirsty JohnG
Sent for the gosling took the swanG
In haste his throat to cutH
And put him in the potI
The bird's complaint resoundedI
In glorious melodyI
Whereat the cook astoundedI
His sad mistake to seeI
Cried 'What make soup of a musicianJ
Please God I'll never set such dish onG
No no I'll never cut a throatI
That sings so sweet a note '-
-
'Tis thus whatever peril may alarm usK
Sweet words will never harm usK
