Vashti Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBDB EFEF GHGH IAJKA BDBLD

O last days of the year she whispered lowA
You fly too swiftly past Ah you might stayB
A while a little while Do you not knowA
What tender things you bear with you awayB
-
I'm thinking sitting in the soft gloom hereC
Of all the riches that were mine the dayB
There crept down on the world the soft New YearD
A rosy thing with promise filled and gayB
-
But twelve short months ago a little spaceE
In which to lose so much a whole life's wealthF
Of love and faith youth and youth's tender graceE
Things that are wont to go from us by stealthF
-
Laughter and blushes and the rapture strongG
The clasp of clinging hands the ling'ring kissH
The joy of living and the glorious songG
That drew its sweetness from a full heart's blissH
-
O wealth of tenderness O gladness greatI
That crowned me covered me a year agoA
A bankrupt I gone faith gone warm caressJ
Gone love gone youth gone allK
She whispered lowA
-
Oh last days of the year you take awayB
The riches that I held so close and dearD
Go not so swiftly stay a little stayB
With one poor bankruptL
Last days of the yearD
