The Trust Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EE FGFGHIHI EE JKJKLMLM EE

We steal the brawn we steal the brainA
The man beneath us in the fightB
Soon learns how helpless and how vainA
To plead for justice or for rightB
We steal the youth we steal the healthC
Hope courage aspiration highD
We steal men's all to make for wealthC
We will repent us by and byD
-
Meantime a gift will heaven appeaseE
Great God forgive our charitiesE
-
We steal the children's laughter shrillF
We steal their joys e'er they can tasteG
Why skip like young lambs on a hillF
Go get ye to your task in hasteG
No matter that they droop and tireH
That heaven cries out against the sinI
The gold red gold that we desireH
Their dimpled hands must help to winI
-
A cheque for missions if you pleaseE
Great God forgive our charitiesE
-
We steal the light from lover's eyesJ
We hush the tale he has to tellK
Of pure desire of tender tiesJ
No man can serve two masters wellK
So loot his treasury of prideL
His holy hopes and visions stealM
His hearth fire scatter far and wideL
And grind the sparks beneath your heelM
-
A cheque will cover sins like theseE
Great God forgive our charitiesE
