The Song Of The Bells Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEE FGFHIJIJKK LMNMFDFDOO

He frowned and shook his snowy headA
Those clanging bells they deafen quiteB
With their unmeaning song he saidA
I'm weary of it all to nightB
The gladness sadness I'm so oldC
I have no sympathy to spareD
My heart has grown so hard and coldC
So full of self I do not careD
How many laugh or long or grieveE
In all the world this Christmas eveE
-
There was a time long long agoF
They take our best the passing yearsG
For the old life and faith and glowF
I'd give what's on my cheek Not tearsH
I have a whim To night I'll spendI
Till eyes turn on me gratefullyJ
An old man's whim just to pretendI
That he is what he used to beJ
For this one night not want nor painK
Shall look to me for help in vainK
-
A foolish whim he muttered oftL
The while he gave to those in needM
But strangely warm and strangely softN
His old face grew for self and greedM
Slipped from him Ah it made him glowF
To hear the blessing thanks the prayerD
He looked into his heart and loF
The old time faith and love were thereD
Ring out old bells right gladly ringO
He said Full sweet the song you singO
