The Criticism Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JBKB LMJM NMOM PQRQ STUT

The great man came to the country placeA
To preach to farmers sturdyB
He said I'm in my happiest veinC
I'll be eloquent and wordyB
-
Not often a great man like myselfD
Comes here to do the teachingE
A big event in these quiet livesF
They'll not forget my preachingE
-
The great man found him a text at lengthG
In Ezekiel's ponderous pagesH
From point to point of his sermon longI
He travelled at easy stagesH
-
He soared up high in the realms of thoughtJ
Was rich in allegoryB
I have said he as he sat him downK
Covered myself with gloryB
-
These simple rustics are overcomeL
With my rhetoric and powerM
They're used to a sprinkling of thoughtJ
And I've given them a showerM
-
The great man got a terrible shockN
As the long service overM
He walked with a farmer grave and staidO
Home through the fields of cloverM
-
Your people ah were they much impressedP
With my sermon he queriedQ
Preaching with earnestness power and forceR
Has left me sadly weariedQ
-
A worse would a done us country folksS
The farmer's tone a terse oneT
That is reflectively if youU
Happened to have a worse oneT
