The river is a ribbon wideA
The falls a snowy featherB
And stretching far on ilka sideA
Are hills abloom wi' heatherB
The wind comes loitering frae the westC
By weight o' sweets retardedD
The sea mist hangs on Arran's crestC
A Golden Fleece unguardedD
-
We ken ye weel ye fond young pairE
That hand in hand do tarryF
The youth is Burns the Bard o' AyrG
The lass is Highland MaryF
He tells her they will never pairtD
'Tis life and luve taegitherF
The world has got the song by hairtD
He sang among the heatherF
-
'Twas lang ago lang lang agoH
Yet all remember dearlyF
The eyes the hair the brow o' snowH
O' her he luved sae dearlyF
And lads still woo their lassies dearF
I' cot and hall and dairyF
By words he whispered i' the earF
O' his ain Highland MaryF
