Magdalene Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHDIJDDKBDLDDD MEDN

A woman in her youth but lost to allA
The joys of innocence Love she had knownB
Such love as leaves the soul filled full of shameC
Passion was hers hate and impurityD
The gnawing of remorse the longing vainE
To lose the mark of sin the scarlet flushF
Of fallen womanhood the envy ofG
The spotless the desire that they might sinkH
Low in the mire as sheD
Oh what a soulI
She carried on that day The women drewJ
Their robes back from her touch men leeredD
And children seemed afraid to meetD
The devilish beauty of her form and faceK
Shunned and aloneB
Till One came to her sideD
And spake her name and took her hand in HisL
And what He saidD
Is past the telling There are things the heartD
Knows well but cannot blazon to the worldD
And when He went His wayM
Upon her brow where shame had lainE
Was set the one sweet wordD
ForgivenessN
