Love's Lesson Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH AIAI

One lesson let us bear in mindA
Be very gentle with our ownB
Be to their faults a little blindA
Nor wound them by a look or toneB
-
Put self behind turn tender eyesC
Keep back the words that hurt and stingD
We learn when sorrow makes us wiseC
Forbearance is the grandest thingD
-
Be patient lest some day we turnE
Our eyes on loved one fast asleepF
And whisper as we lean and yearnE
How often I have made you weepF
-
Some loved you not and words let fallG
That must have pierc d your gentle breastH
But I who loved you best of allG
Hurt you far more than all the restH
-
One lesson let us keep in mindA
To hold our dear ones close and fastI
Since loyal hearts are hard to findA
And life and love so soon are pastI
