Life's Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM

Life's day is too brief he said at dawnA
I would it were ten times longerB
For great tasks wait for me further onC
At noonday the wish was strongerB
-
His place was in the thick of the strifeD
And hopes were nearing completenessE
While one was crowning the joys of lifeD
With love's own wonderful sweetnessE
-
Life's day is too brief for all it containsF
The triumphs the fighting the provingG
The hopes and desires the joys and the painsF
Too brief for the hating and lovingG
-
-
-
To night he sits in the shadows grayH
While heavily sorrow pressesI
O the long long day O the weary dayH
With its failures and successesI
-
He sits in the shadows and turns his eyesJ
On the years that lie behind himK
I am tired of all things now he criesJ
And the hot tears rise and blind himK
-
Rest and stillness is all that I craveL
Such robbing of strength has grief doneM
Make room dear love in your lowly graveL
Life's day thank God is a brief oneM
