In Memoriam Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBBC DEDDE FGFFH IJIIJ KLMNL OPOOP CQCCQ

A Tribute to Mrs George A CoxA
-
-
The Golden Rule the blessed creedB
That shelters frail humanityC
The tender thought for those in needB
The charity of word and deedB
Without which all is vanityC
-
This friend you made your very ownD
And yours the satisfying partE
To pluck the rose of love full blownD
To reap the gladness you had sownD
With open hand and kindly heartE
-
Simplicity the jewel rareF
Whose gleam is ever true and warmG
That thing of worth beyond compareF
Which none but truly great may wearF
Adorned your life with power and charmH
-
Yours the sincerity that gripsI
Fast hold of natures strong and wiseJ
It thrilled you to your finger tipsI
It set its seal on brow and lipsI
And shone within your dark true eyesJ
-
The throng knew not how rich the storeK
Of sympathy and trust you hadL
Knew not you were till life was o'erM
God's almoner among His poorN
God's comforter to sick and sadL
-
Too soon you went we miss the cheerO
The kindliness vouchsafed to allP
The world seems strangely lone and drearO
When one whom many hearts hold dearO
Fares heavenward ere the shadows fallP
-
Too soon you went and yet maybeC
Your work well done your task completeQ
The soul of you turned longinglyC
Toward gates of pearl and jasper seaC
And fields of Eden rarely sweetQ
