JUNEA
-
-
So still you sleep upon your bedB
So motionless and slenderC
It cannot be that you are deadB
My maiden gay and tenderC
-
You were no creature pale and meekD
That death should hasten afterC
The dimples played within your cheekD
Your lips were made for laughterC
-
To you the great world was a placeE
That care might never stay inF
A playground built by God's good graceE
For glad young folks to play inF
-
You made your footpath by life's flowersG
O happy care free maidenH
The sky was full of shine and showersG
The wind was perfume ladenH
-
Your dimpled hands are folded nowI
Upon your snowy bosomJ
The dark hair nestles on your browI
O tender broken blossomJ
-
The white lids hide your eyes so clearK
So mirthful so beguilingL
But as my tears fall on you dearK
Your lips seem softly smilingL
-
And do you feel that it is homeM
The city far above usN
And were they glad to have you comeJ
And will you cease to love usN
-
Methinks when you stand all in whiteO
To learn each sweet new dutyP
Some eye will note with keen delightO
Your radiance and beautyP
-
And when your laughter softly ringsQ
Out where God's streets do glistenH
The angels fair will fold their wingsQ
And still their song to listenH
