Despair Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFE GHGH IAIA

We catch a glimpse of it gaunt and grayA
When the golden sunbeams are all abroadB
We sober a moment then softly sayA
The world still lies in the hand of GodC
-
We watch it stealthily creeping o'erD
The threshold leading to somebody's soulE
A shadow we cry it cannot be moreF
When faith is one's portion and Heaven one's goalE
-
A ghost that comes stealing its way alongG
Affrighting the weak with its gruesome airH
But who that is young and glad and strongG
Fears for a moment to meet DespairH
-
To this heart of ours we have thought so boldI
All uninvited it comes one dayA
Lo faith grows wan and love grows coldI
And the heaven of our dreams lies far awayA
