Chrysanthemum's Court Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

They lift their faces to the lightA
And aye they are a gallant bandB
The queen of all is snowy whiteA
A stately thing and tall and grandB
-
See close beside in yellow drestB
Is the prince consort of the hourC
A bit of God's own sunshine prestB
Into a glorious golden flowerC
-
And mark the courtiers' noble graceD
Gay courtiers these in raiment fineE
Their satin doublets slashed with laceD
Their velvet cloaks as red as wineE
-
Each maid in waiting is most fairF
Note well the graces she unfurlsD
The winds have tossed her fluffy hairF
And left it in a thousand curlsD
-
And yonder quaint old fashioned oneG
Arrayed in palest lavenderC
Ah few there are when all is doneG
In beauty can compare with herC
-
The pink I've seen at eventideB
A something very like to thisD
A cloud adrift upon the skyH
All rosy from the sun's last kissD
-
Without the court the chill and gloomI
Of autumn twilight o'er the landB
Within the grandeur and the bloomI
Of queen of prince and courtiers grandB
