Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DDED FGHG AIAI JKJK LMAM NOAO PQKQ RSAS TGUG

I can see her in the kitchenA
Apron on and sleeves rolled upB
Measurin' spices in a teaspoonC
Figs and raisins in a cupB
-
Now she's throwin' apple quartersD
In that wooden bowl of hersD
'Long with lemon peel and orangeE
An' she stirs an' stirs an' stirsD
-
Then she takes her knife an' chops itF
Chops so fast her hand jest fliesG
Now I know what ma is up toH
Makin' mincemeat for the piesG
-
I smell Christmas in our kitchenA
An' my heart gets big an' gladI
An' I somehow fall to wishin'A
That I wasn't quite so badI
-
An' I tell myself I'll neverJ
Cheat at marbles any moreK
Nor make faces at my teacherJ
Nor hang round the corner storeK
-
'Stead of goin' on my errandsL
Never touch the cookie pailM
Nor play hooky an' go skatin'A
Nor tie cans on Rover's tailM
-
Never let ma think it's spellingsN
When it's only Robin HoodO
With the gladness comes the wishin'A
To be oh just awful goodO
-
'Bout this time of year it takes meP
Pa he doesn't understandQ
Always says You sly young codgerK
You know Christmas is at handQ
-
But it isn't that it's somethingR
Can't explain it very wellS
Takes me when ma fills the kitchenA
With this juicy Christmas smellS
-
When she chops the spice an' raisinsT
With the peels an' Northern SpiesG
Sleeves rolled up above her elbowsU
Makin' mincemeat for the piesG
