Archibald Lampman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCB DEED FGHF IJJI KLMK NOOP FQQF RSST

Poet by the grace of GodA
-
-
You sing of winter gray and chillB
Of silent stream and frozen lakeC
Of naked woods and winds that wakeC
To shriek and sob o'er vale and hillB
-
And straight we breathe the bracing airD
And see stretched out before our eyesE
A white world spanned by brooding skiesE
And snowflakes drifting everywhereD
-
You sing of tender things and sweetF
Of field of brook of flower of bushG
The lilt of bird the sunset flushH
The scarlet poppies in the wheatF
-
Until we feel the gleam and glowI
Of summer pulsing through our veinsJ
And hear the patter of the rainsJ
And watch the green things sprout and growI
-
You sing of joy and we do markK
How glad a thing is life and dearL
Of sorrow and we seem to hearM
The sound of sobbing in the darkK
-
The subtle power to sway and moveN
The stamp of genius strong and trueO
This friend was heaven's gift to youO
This made you great and won you loveP
-
Your song goes ringing clear and sweetF
Though on earth's bosom bare and brownQ
All willingly you laid you downQ
The music is not incompleteF
-
Sleep on it is not by the yearsR
We measure life when all is doneS
Your rest is earned your laurels wonS
Sleep softly sleep we say with tearsT
