Lament Vi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEEEFFGGHIJJ KK

Dear little Slavic Sappho we had thoughtA
Hearing thy songs so sweetly deftly wroughtA
That thou shouldst have an heritage one dayB
Beyond thy father's lands his lute to playB
For not an hour of daylight's joyous roundC
But thou didst fill it full of lovely soundC
Just as the nightingale doth scatter pleasureD
Upon the dark in glad unstinted measureD
Then Death came stalking near thee timid thingE
And thou in sudden terror tookest wingE
Ah that delight it was not overlongE
And I pay dear with sorrow for brief songE
Thou still wert singing when thou cam'st to dieF
Kissing thy mother thus thou saidst good byeF
My mother I shall serve thee now no moreG
Nor sit about thy table's charming storeG
I must lay down my keys to go from hereH
To leave the mansion of my parents dearI
This and what sorrow now will let me tellJ
No longer were my darling's last farewellJ
Ah strong her mother's heart to feel the painK
Of those last words and not to burst in twainK
