Lament Ix Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEFGGAAHHIIJJ

Thou shouldst be purchased Wisdom for much goldA
If all they say of thee is truly toldA
That thou canst root out from the mind the hostB
Of longings and canst change a man almostB
Into an angel whom no grief can sapC
Who is not prone to fear nor evil hapC
Thou seest all things human as they areD
Trifles Thou bearest in thy breast a starD
Fixed and tranquil and dost contemplateE
Death unafraid still calm inviolateF
Of riches one thing thou dost hold the measureG
Proportion to man's needs not gold nor treasureG
Thy searching eyes have power to beholdA
The beggar housed beneath the roof of goldA
Nor dost thou grudge the poor man fame as blestH
If he but hearken him to thy behestH
Oh hapless hapless man am I who soughtI
If I might gain thy thresholds by much thoughtI
Cast down from thy last steps after so longJ
But one amid the countless hopeless throngJ
