I am part of a being that has socially fought to be

Recognised as a person and

To be respected by my counterparts

The definition of woman is ironically not defined by me

As I am a woman I still do not obtain the power to define myself

Did my foremothers not fight for those basic rights?

As a woman I cannot stand alone

As a woman of colour I will forever have to prove myself

As a woman I will never be strong enough

As a woman I will never be enough

Enough to them

I am a being that has been created to be myself

I was not created to please them

Yet they put me on trial

They put me inside a cage

Bind me in chains and tailor on it

“Do not touch

I am not to be touched because they have decided that for me

They hold the key to the cage I am within

Guarded by their judgments

They are the beholders of the truth

They are fierier to me and my kind

I dare not object to their rulings of me

They are the creators of cities

And the cause of their destructions

They are at the top of the food chain

As they prey on us

Me, my people and I

Live not to defy them

But there is only power and anarchy in their eyes

No peace or compassion is found within them

They lurk on us like wolves

Drooling on our every move

Waiting to tear us limb from limb

To enjoy the pleasures of stripping us from our integrity and dignity

To see us bare

Vulnerable and impure

Offer a trade to be with them forever

But this is only bartering

A simple business deal

Where we get nothing in return

We trade ourselves to them and they return their concept of comfort

Not that we have a choice to trade or not

Our voices are softer

Our bodies are even weaker

How dare we bear the thought to go against our masters?
