Where The Children Used To Play Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDEED FFDFFD GFGHIIDJJD FFDFFD

The old farm home is Mother's yet and mineA
And filled it is with plenty and to spareB
But we are lonely here in life's declineA
Though fortune smiles around us everywhereB
We look across the goldC
Of the harvests as of oldC
The corn the fragrant clover and the hayD
But most we turn our gazeE
As with eyes of other daysE
To the orchard where the children used to playD
-
O from our life's full measureF
And rich hoard of worldly treasureF
We often turn our weary eyes awayD
And hand in hand we wanderF
Down the old path winding yonderF
To the orchard where the children used to playD
-
Our sloping pasture lands are filled with herdsG
The barn and granary bins are bulging o'verF
The grove's a paradise of singing birdsG
The woodland brook leaps laughing by the doorH
Yet lonely lonely stillI
Let us prosper as we willI
Our old hearts seem so empty everywayD
We can only through a mistJ
See the faces we have kissedJ
In the orchard where the children used to playD
-
O from our life's full measureF
And rich hoard of worldly treasureF
We often turn our weary eyes awayD
And hand in hand we wanderF
Down the old path winding yonderF
To the orchard where the children used to playD
