When Early March Seems Middle May Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDECC FGFGCC HIHICC JKLKCC MNMNNC

When country roads begin to thawA
In mottled spots of damp and dustB
And fences by the margin drawA
Along the frosty crustB
Their graphic silhouettes I sayC
The Spring is coming round this wayC
-
When morning time is bright with sunD
And keen with wind and both confuseE
The dancing glancing eyes of oneD
With tears that ooze and oozeE
And nose tips weep as well as theyC
The Spring is coming round this wayC
-
When suddenly some shadow birdF
Goes wavering beneath the gazeG
And through the hedge the moan is heardF
Of kine that fain would grazeG
In grasses new I smile and sayC
The Spring is coming round this wayC
-
When knotted horse tails are untiedH
And teamsters whistle here and thereI
And clumsy mitts are laid asideH
And choppers' hands are bareI
And chips are thick where children playC
The Spring is coming round this wayC
-
When through the twigs the farmer trampsJ
And troughs are chunked beneath the treesK
And fragrant hints of sugar campsL
Astray in every breezeK
When early March seems middle MayC
The Spring is coming round this wayC
-
When coughs are changed to laughs and whenM
Our frowns melt into smiles of gleeN
And all our blood thaws out againM
In streams of ecstasyN
And poets wreak their roundelayN
The Spring is coming round this wayC
