'Lord I believe help Thou mine unbelief 'A
-
-
We must believeB
Being from birth endowed with love and trustC
Born unto loving and how simply justC
That love that faith even in the blossom faceD
The babe drops dreamward in its resting placeD
Intuitively conscious of the sureE
Awakening to rapture ever pureE
And sweet and saintly as the mother's ownF
Or the awed father's as his arms are thrownF
O'er wife and child to round about them weaveB
And wind and bind them as one harvest sheafG
Of love to cleave to and forever cleaveB
Lord I believeB
Help Thou mine unbeliefB
-
We must believeB
Impelled since infancy to seek some clearH
Fulfillment still withheld all seekers hereI
For never have we seen perfection norJ
The glory we are ever seeking forJ
But we have seen all mortal souls as oneK
Have seen its promise in the morning sunK
Its blest assurance in the stars of nightL
The ever dawning of the dark to lightL
The tears down falling from all eyes that grieveB
The eyes uplifting from all deeps of griefB
Yearning for what at last we shall receiveB
Lord I believeB
Help Thou mine unbeliefB
-
We must believeB
For still all unappeased our hunger goesM
From life's first waking to its last reposeM
The briefest life of any babe or manN
Outwearing even the allotted spanN
Is each a life unfinished incompleteO
For these then of th' outworn or unworn feetO
Denied one toddling step O there must beP
Some fair green flowery pathway endlesslyP
Winding through lands Elysian Lord receiveB
And lead each as Thine Own Child even the ChiefB
Of us who didst Immortal life achieveB
Lord I believeB
Help Thou mine unbeliefB
