As Tugg says 'as a gentlemen '-
You 'd ort o' hear Tugg tell it MyA

The boys wuz jestC
A kindo' gittin' thawed out downE
At 'Guss's Place ' fur end o' townE
One night when first we knowedC
Some feller rodeC
Up in a buggy at the doorF
And hollered fer some one to comeG
And fetch him someG
Red licker out And whirped and sworeF
That colt he drove wuz ' Thompson's ' shoreF

Guss went out and come in aginI
And filled a pint and tuck it outC
Stayed quite a spell then peeked back inJ
Half hid like where the light wuz dimK
And jieuked his headC
At Tugg and saidC
'Come out a minute here's a gentC
Wants you to take a drink with him '-

Well Tugg laid down his cards and wentC
In fact we allL
Got up you knowM
Startin' to goM
When in reels Guss aginst the wallL
As white as snowM
Gaspin' ' He's tuck Tugg wher's my gun '-
And sir outside we heerdC
The hoss snort and kick up his heelsN
Like he wuz skeerdC
And then the buggy wheelsN
Scrape and then Tugg's voice hollerun'M
'I'm bested Good bye fellers ' 'PearedC
S' all fired suddentC
Nobody couldn'tC
Jest git it fixed tel hoss and manM
Buggy and Tugg off through the darkO
Went like the devil beatin' tanM

What could we do We filed back toC
The bar And Guss jest looked at usP
And we looked back 'The same as you '-
Still sayin' nothin' And the sapQ
It stood in every eyeH
And every hat and capQ
Went off as we teched glasses solemnlyH
And Guss says heH
'Ef it's 'good bye' with Tugg fer shore I sayR
God bless him Er ef theyR
Aint railly no need to prayR
I'm not reniggin board's the playR
And here's God bless him anyway '-

The Deputy wuz at 'I don't know where ' Tugg saidC
