Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDEEFFGH IIJJKKFFLLMN

INSCRIBED IN TALES OF THE OCEANA
-
This first book that I ever knewB
Was read aloud to me by youB
Friend of my boyhood therefore takeC
It back from me for old times' sakeC
The selfsame Tales first read to meD
Under the old sweet apple treeD
Ere I myself could read such greatE
Big words but listening all elateE
At your interpreting untilF
Brain heart and soul were all athrillF
With wonder awe and sheer excessG
Of wildest childish happinessH
-
So take the book again forgetI
All else long years lost hopes regretI
Sighs for the joys we ne'er attainJ
Prayers we have lifted all in vainJ
Tears for the faces seen no moreK
Once as the roses at the doorK
Take the enchanted book And loF
On grassy swards of long agoF
Sprawl out again beneath the shadeL
The breezy old home orchard madeL
The veriest barefoot boy indeedM
And I will listen as you readN
