It was just a veryA
Merry fairy dreamB
All the woods were airyA
With the gloom and gleamB
Crickets in the cloverC
Clattered clear and strongD
And the bees droned overC
Their old honey songD
-
In the mossy passesE
Saucy grasshoppersF
Leapt about the grassesE
And the thistle bursE
And the whispered chuckleG
Of the katydidH
Shook the honeysuckleG
Blossoms where he hidH
-
Through the breezy mazesE
Of the lazy JuneI
Drowsy with the hazesE
Of the dreamy noonI
Little Pixy peopleG
Winged above the walkJ
Pouring from the steepleG
Of a mullein stalkJ
-
One a gallant fellowK
Evidently KingL
Wore a plume of yellowK
In a jewelled ringL
On a pansy bonnetM
Gold and white and blueN
With the dew still on itO
And the fragrance tooN
-
One a dainty ladyA
Evidently QueenP
Wore a gown of shadyA
Moonshine and greenP
With a lace of gleamingL
Starlight that sentQ
All the dewdrops dreamingL
Everywhere she wentQ
-
One wore a waistcoatQ
Of roseleaves out and inR
And one wore a faced coatQ
Of tiger lily skinR
And one wore a neat coatQ
Of palest galingaleN
And one a tiny street coatQ
And one a swallow tailN
-
And Ho sang the King of themS
And Hey sang the QueenP
And round and round the ring of themS
Went dancing o'er the greenP
And Hey sang the Queen of themS
And Ho sang the KingL
And all that I had seen of themS
Wasn't anythingL
-
It was just a veryA
Merry fairy dreamB
All the woods were airyA
With the gloom and gleamB
Crickets in the cloverC
Clattered clear and strongD
And the bees droned overC
Their old honey songD
