The King Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCC DEFEGGGE CHCH IIIH JCJCEEEC JKJKCC L

They rode right out of the morning sunA
A glimmering glittering cavalcadeB
Of knights and ladies and every oneA
In princely sheen arrayedB
And the king of them all O he rode aheadC
With a helmet of gold and a plume of redC
That spurted about in the breeze and bledC
In the bloom of the evergladeC
-
And they rode high over the dewy lawnD
With brave glad banners of every hueE
That rolled in ripples as they rode onF
In splendor two and twoE
And the tinkling links of the golden reinsG
Of the steeds they rode rang such refrainsG
As the castanets in a dream of Spain'sG
Intensest gold and blueE
-
And they rode and rode and the steeds they neighedC
And pranced and the sun on their glossy hidesH
Flickered and lightened and glanced and playedC
Like the moon on rippling tidesH
-
And their manes were silken and thick and strongI
And their tails were flossy and fetlock longI
And jostled in time to the teeming throngI
And their knightly song besidesH
-
Clank of scabbard and jingle of spurJ
And the fluttering sash of the queen went wildC
In the wind and the proud king glanced at herJ
As one at a wilful childC
And as knight and lady away they flewE
And the banners flapped and the falcon tooE
And the lances flashed and the bugle blewE
He kissed his hand and smiledC
-
And then like a slanting sunlit showerJ
The pageant glittered across the plainK
And the turf spun back and the wildweed flowerJ
Was only a crimson stainK
And a dreamer's eyes they are downward castC
As he blends these words with the wailing blastC
'It is the King of the Year rides past '-
And Autumn is here againL
