The Katydids Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCC DDDEEE FFFGG HH IJI

Sometimes I keepA
From going to sleepA
To hear the katydids 'cheep cheep 'B
And think they sayC
Their prayers that wayC
But katydids don't have to prayC
-
I listen whenD
They cheep againD
And so I think they're singing thenD
But no I'm wrongE
The sound's too longE
And all alike to be a songE
-
I think 'Well thereF
I do declareF
If it is neither song nor prayerF
It's talk and quiteG
Too vain and lightG
For me to listen to all night '-
-
And so I smileH
And think 'Now I'llH
Not listen for a little while '-
Then sweet and clearI
Next ' cheep ' I hearJ
'S a kiss Good morning Mommy dearI
