Fer 'em stropped 'em on and wadedA
Up and down the crick a waitin'B
Tel she'd freeze up fit fer skatin'B
Mildest winter I rememberC
More like Spring than Winter weatherC
Did n't frost tel bout DecemberC
Git up airly ketch a' featherC
Of it mayby 'crost the winderC
Sunshine swinge it like a cinderC

Well I waited and kep ' waitin'B
Couldn't see my money's w'oth inB
Them air skates and was no skatin'B
Ner no hint o' ice ner nothin'B
So one day along in airlyD
Spring I swopped 'em off and barelyD
Closed the dicker 'fore the weatherC
Natchurly jes slipped the ratchetE
And crick tail race all togetherC
Froze so tight cat couldn't scratch itF
