The Harp Of The Minstrel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC CBCBDEDE FGFHABAB

The harp of the minstrel has never a toneA
As sad as the song in his bosom to nightB
For the magical touch of his fingers aloneA
Can not waken the echoes that breathe it arightB
But oh as the smile of the moon may impartB
A sorrow to one in an alien climeC
Let the light of the melody fall on the heartB
And cadence his grief into musical rhymeC
-
The faces have faded the eyes have grown dimC
That once were his passionate love and his prideB
And alas all the smiles that once blossomed for himC
Have fallen away as the flowers have diedB
The hands that entwined him the laureate's wreathD
And crowned him with fame in the long long agoE
Like the laurels are withered and folded beneathD
The grass and the stubble the frost and the snowE
-
Then sigh if thou wilt as the whispering stringsF
Strive ever in vain for the utterance clearG
And think of the sorrowful spirit that singsF
And jewel the song with the gem of a tearH
For the harp of the minstrel has never a toneA
As sad as the song in his bosom tonightB
And the magical touch of his fingers aloneA
Can not waken the echoes that breathe it arightB
