Song Of The New Year Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEBFBGHGI JKLMNONOGHG PQQQNRNSGHG TUNUNNVNGHG

I heard the bells at midnightA
Ring in the dawning yearB
And above the clanging chorusC
Of the song I seemed to hearD
A choir of mystic voicesE
Flinging echoes ringing clearB
From a band of angels wingingF
Through the haunted atmosphereB
'Ring out the shame and sorrowG
And the misery and sinH
That the dawning of the morrowG
May in peace be ushered in 'I
-
And I thought of all the trialsJ
The departed years had costK
And the blooming hopes and pleasuresL
That are withered now and lostM
And with joy I drank the musicN
Stealing o'er the feeling thereO
As the spirit song came pealingN
On the silence everywhereO
'Ring out the shame and sorrowG
And the misery and sinH
That the dawning of the morrowG
May in peace be ushered in '-
-
And I listened as a loverP
To an utterance that flowsQ
In syllables like dewdropsQ
From the red lips of a roseQ
Till the anthem fainter growingN
Climbing higher chiming onR
Up the rounds of happy rhymingN
Slowly vanished in the dawnS
'Ring out the shame and sorrowG
And the misery and sinH
That the dawning of the morrowG
May in peace be ushered in '-
-
Then I raised my eyes to HeavenT
And with trembling lips I pledU
For a blessing for the livingN
And a pardon for the deadU
And like a ghost of musicN
Slowly whispered lowly sungN
Came the echo pure and holyV
In the happy angel tongueN
'Ring out the shame and sorrowG
And the misery and sinH
And the dawn of every morrowG
Will in peace be ushered in '-
