Over The Eyes Of Gladness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFG HDDD IAAA JKIK DLML

'The voice of One hath spokenA
And the bended reed is bruisedB
The golden bowl is brokenA
And the silver cord is loosed 'C
-
Over the eyes of gladnessD
The lids of sorrow fallE
And the light of mirth is darkenedF
Under the funeral pallG
-
The hearts that throbbed with raptureH
In dreams of the future yearsD
Are wakened from their slumbersD
And their visions drowned in tearsD
-
-
Two buds on the bough in the morningI
Twin buds in the smiling sunA
But the frost of death has fallenA
And blighted the bloom of oneA
-
One leaf of life still foldedJ
Has fallen from the stemK
Leaving the symbol teachingI
There still are two of themK
-
For though through Time's gradationsD
The LIVING bud may burstL
The WITHERED one is gatheredM
And blooms in Heaven firstL
