He's jes' a great big awk'ard hulkin'A
Feller humped and sort o' sulkin'A
Like and ruther still appearin'A
Kind as ef he wuzn't keerin'A
Whether school helt out er notB
That's my Henry to a dotB
-
Allus kind o' liked him whetherC
Childern er growed up togetherC
Fifteen year' ago and betterC
'Fore he ever knowed a letterC
Run acrosst the little foolD
In my Primer class at schoolD
-
When the Teacher wuzn't lookin'A
He'd be th'owin' wads er crookin'A
Pins er sprinklin' pepper more'nA
Likely on the stove er borin'A
Gimlet holes up thue his deskE
Nothin' that boy wouldn't reskE
-
But somehow as I was goin'A
On to say he seemed so knowin'A
Other ways and cute and cunnin'A
Allus wuz a notion runnin'A
Thue my giddy fool head heF
Jes' had be'n cut out fer meF
-
Don't go much on prophesyin'A
But last night whilse I wuz fryin'A
Supper with that man a pitchin'A
Little Marthy round the kitchenA
Think says I Them baby's eyesG
