Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEFC GHGHAEA GIGIGEG GJGJGEG JJJJKEK FAJALEL

The world is turned ag'in' meA
And people says 'They guessB
That nothin' else is in meA
But pure maliciousness 'C
I git the blame for doin'D
What other chaps destroyE
And I'm a goin' to ruinF
Because I'm 'Johnson's boy 'C
-
THAT ain't my name I'd rutherG
They'd call me IKE or PATH
But they've forgot the otherG
And so have I for thatH
I reckon it's as handyA
When Nibsy breaks his toyE
Or some one steals his candyA
To say 'twas 'JOHNSON'S BOY '-
-
You can't git any waterG
At the pump and find the spoutI
So durn chuck full o' mortarG
That you have to bore it outI
You tackle any scholarG
In Wisdom's wise employE
And I'll bet you half a dollarG
He'll say it's 'Johnson's boy '-
-
Folks don't know how I sufferG
In my uncomplainin' wayJ
They think I'm gittin' tougherG
And tougher every dayJ
Last Sunday night when FlinderG
Was a shoutin' out for joyE
And some one shook the winderG
He prayed for 'Johnson's boy '-
-
I'm tired of bein' folleredJ
By farmers every dayJ
And then o' bein' collaredJ
For coaxin' hounds awayJ
Hounds always plays me doubleK
It's a trick they all enjoyE
To git me into troubleK
Because I'm 'Johnson's boy '-
-
But if I git to HeavenF
I hope the Lord'll seeA
SOME boy has been perfectJ
And lay it on to meA
I'll swell the song sonorousL
And clap my wings for joyE
And sail off on the chorusL
'Hurrah for 'Johnson's boy ''-
