In The Dark Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CDED CFGF HIJI KLML NOHO

O in the depths of midnightA
What fancies haunt the brainB
When even the sigh of the sleeperC
Sounds like a sob of painB
-
A sense of awe and of wonderC
I may never well defineD
For the thoughts that come in the shadowsE
Never come in the shineD
-
The old clock down in the parlorC
Like a sleepless mourner grievesF
And the seconds drip in the silenceG
As the rain drips from the eavesF
-
And I think of the hands that signalH
The hours there in the gloomI
And wonder what angel watchersJ
Wait in the darkened roomI
-
And I think of the smiling facesK
That used to watch and waitL
Till the click of the clock was answeredM
By the click of the opening gateL
-
They are not there now in the eveningN
Morning or noon not thereO
Yet I know that they keep their vigilH
And wait for me SomewhereO
