In The Afternoon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBA CDEDDC FGHGGH IJIJJI

You in the hammock and I near byA
Was trying to read and to swing you tooB
And the green of the sward was so kind to the eyeA
And the shade of the maples so cool and blueB
That often I looked from the book to youB
To say as much with a sighA
-
You in the hammock The book we'd broughtC
From the parlor to read in the open airD
Something of love and of LauncelotE
And Guinevere I believe was thereD
But the afternoon it was far more fairD
Than the poem was I thoughtC
-
You in the hammock and on and onF
I droned and droned through the rhythmic stuffG
But with always a half of my vision goneH
Over the top of the page enoughG
To caressingly gaze at you swathed in the fluffG
Of your hair and your odorous lawnH
-
You in the hammock and that was a yearI
Fully a year ago I guessJ
And what do we care for their GuinevereI
And her Launcelot and their lordlinessJ
You in the hammock still and YesJ
Kiss me again my dearI
